Sept. 26: Good Thunder Reading Series Visit by Poet Ada Limón

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato will host poet Ada Limón (pictured) on Thursday, Sept. 26 as the first of nine writers who will be on campus for this year’s Good Thunder Reading Series.

Limón will begin her Sept. 26 visit by holding a workshop from 10-11 a.m. at the Emy Frentz Gallery, located at 523 S. 2nd St., Mankato.

During the afternoon, Limón will hold a “Talk on Craft” from 3-4 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium, located in Centennial Student Union. Books will be available for purchase.

Then in the evening, from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Limón will read from her work in the University’s Centennial Student Union, Room 245. Books will be available for purchase.

All Good Thunder Reading Series events are free and open to the public.

Limón is the author of five books of poetry, including “The Carrying,” which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry and was named one of the top five books of 2018 by the Washington Post, and “Bright Dead Things.” She serves on the faculty of Queens University of Charlotte’s Low Residency MFA program, and the online and summer programs for Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center. She also works as a freelancer writer in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Good Thunder Reading Series, in its 38th year, is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The 2019-20 Good Thunder Reading Series also receives support from Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of English, College of Arts and Humanities, Office of Institutional Diversity, the Women’s Center, the Nadine B. Andreas Endowment, the Eddice B. Barber Visiting Writer Endowment, the Robert C. Wright Endowment and individual donors.
