Things we can talk about

My professional role includes raising support for students as well as engaging alumni and friends of the University but I am open to conversations about topics of interest for the student. I may not know the answer but am resourceful enough to help find one. I grew up in the area and worked in the non-profit sector for over 15 years so do have connections to outside resources.

Why I want to be a Maverick Firsts Advocate

I know first-hand how difficult and overwhelming the college process can be. When I was a student, I didn’t always ask for help when it was available and missed out on some great opportunities. My parents never attended college however they encouraged me from an early age to consider the option. They were not able to financially support my education as I was the youngest of four kids, so I knew early on that I needed to work hard and save, as I got my first job at age 15. I wish I had the courage to apply for scholarships but pride got in the way. I hope to help guide other first gen students and assist as a mentor in any way that would provide benefit.

Other information about me

I have three boys that keep me busy in the sports world between hockey, lacrosse, football, soccer and cross country. I attended MNSU intending to play on the golf team however tried out for the volleyball team as a “walk-on” and played all four years. I currently volunteer as Chair of the Supporting Individuals and Families Committee with the Greater Mankato Area United Way, served on the Mankato Kiwanis Board of Directors and volunteer at various organizations throughout the community.
