Why I want to be a Maverick Firsts Advocate

As a first-generation and non-traditional student, I was terrified to get on campus and make this happen for myself. There were a ton of departments and different people – but I never seemed to know where to turn exactly. I ended up connecting with a classmate in the non-traditional student office that guided me through so many questions and finding the right person to go to at times when they did not know the exact answer. I want to be this person for others – there is a saying that I strongly believe in: “Work smarter, not harder.” If you can reach out to one of us or another person on campus to be your go-to person – that my friend is working smarter!

Other information about me

I have two children on the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus and am enjoying walking beside them as they have started their post-high school paths.

In my free time, I have a passion for playing games and being outdoors. I am completely me being in my hammock or on the water, either fishing, swimming, streaming, or at a water park.

My downtime with friends often includes games – like cards, escape rooms, or murder mysteries. Who doesn’t like a little friendly competition?

I was born and raised right across the river so I can help make local connections as you need them.
