Exempt vs. Non-exempt Information:
Timekeeping procedures are slightly different for exempt versus non-exempt employees. Exempt employees are required only to provide time sheet information regarding leave taken or hours not worked, such as sick leave, annual leave, personal holiday, leave without pay, family medical leave, etc. All non-exempt employees are to record actual time worked, as well as leave time taken.
The reason for this distinction is that most exempt employees are, by law and collective bargaining agreement, not eligible for overtime. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime or compensatory time in accordance with their collective bargaining agreement or personnel plan. For these employees, we need specific information on the time sheets in order to input the data into the payroll system and pay people accordingly.
In order to insure that you are paid correctly and in a timely manner, it is essential that each time sheet submitted is legible and all required fields are completed. Supervisors are responsible to insure that employees have filled out all fields before approving the time sheet. Please do not submit or approve time sheets in advance. Circumstances often change (e.g. sick leave) leading to different hours being worked.
