Arts and Cultural Heritage Project

From the Minnesota State Legislature homepage: "In 2008, Minnesota voters passed a constitutional amendment, often referred to as the 'Legacy Amendment,' that increased the state’s sales tax by 3/8ths of 1 percent for 25 years . The funds raised by this tax are dedicated to four separate funds that each receive a specific percentage of the revenues: Outdoor Heritage Fund (33 percent), Clean Water Fund (33 percent), the Parks and Trails Fund (14.25 percent), and the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (19.75 percent). The Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF) is a state fund that 'may be spent only for arts, arts education, and arts access and to preserve Minnesota’s history and cultural heritage.'"

As a member of the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations (AMPERS), KMSU Radio is one of several organizations in Minnesota that distributes Legacy funding in our community. This has allowed us to fund a wide variety of arts and support the rich creative culture of our listening area. Many of these events and projects would not be possible without Arts & Cultural Heritage Funding, so we'd like to say thank you to the voters of Minnesota for supporting the Legacy Amendment. Your decision has made Minnesota an even more vibrant place to live.

The Fountaineers KMSU Radio Drama Troupe Returns

Radio Production of Plan 9 From Outer Space will air on Halloween

The Fountaineers KMSU Radio Drama Troupe will be holding auditions for their next radio drama, a production of Ed Wood Jr's Plan 9 From Outer Space, on Sunday, August 21st, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Arts Center of Saint Peter (315 S Minnesota Ave) in Saint Peter, MN. Recording and production will take place through September, with the final product airing on KMSU Radio on Halloween night. The auditions are open to all.

The Fountaineers were founded by KMSU host Shelley Pierce in 2021 to recreate the magic of old time radio dramas. Members of the community, regardless of experience, stepped in to fill the roles for the inaugural production of George Romero's legendary zombie film Night of the Living Dead. The cast also found ways to create many of the sound effects necessary to adapt the story for radio, making the entire project a fully collaborative experience.

For this year's production, prospective actors are being asked to audition with this section from Criswell's introduction monologue from Plan 9:

Greetings, my friend. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives, And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future, You are interested in the unknown, the mysterious, the unexplainable. That is why you are here. And now, for the first time, we are bringing to you the full story behind what happened on that fateful day. We are giving you all the evidence, based only on the secret testimonies of the miserable souls who survived this terrifying ordeal. The incidents, the places, my friend we cannot keep this a secret any longer. Let us punish the guilty, let us reward the innocent. My friend, can your heart stand the shocking facts about grave robbers from outer space?
