How Students Engage in the Community
At Minnesota State University, Mankato, community engagement is about more than just volunteering—it's about making a real impact while growing as a student and leader. Students can engage with the community in many meaningful ways, including:
- Volunteering for causes you care about
- Donating goods or funds to support local needs
- Taking courses focused on community issues
- Attending public forums or community meetings
- Building leadership and advocacy skills
- Participating in dialogue around key social issues
- Choosing careers that serve the public good
- Educating others or writing letters for a cause
- Promoting voter registration and civic participation
Focus Areas:
The Community Engagement Office focuses on four priorities to make the biggest impact:
- Food Insecurity – Food drives, Free Farmers Markets, and local partnerships
- Children – Literacy events, active play programs, and campus-wide book drives
- Environment – Cleanups, leaf raking, and promoting sustainable practices
- Community Partnerships – Collaborating with local organizations to meet evolving needs
