AmeriCorps

You can use your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to help pay for one semester at a time. Here’s how the process works:

  • Submit Your Request: Request your award payment through the My AmeriCorps site. Submit a new request each semester.
  • Review and Processing: Once AmeriCorps forwards your request, Student Financial Services typically reviews it within five business days.
  • Notification: AmeriCorps will notify you if your payment request is accepted or declined.
  • Payment Application: If approved, funds are applied to your University account—usually within two weeks after review.
    • If the award exceeds your balance, the remaining funds will be refunded to you via direct deposit or check.
  • Disbursement Timing: AmeriCorps funds are disbursed in two installments: one at the start and one at the midpoint of the semester.

Important: Submit your payment request early to avoid late fees or registration holds due to a past due balance.

Third-Party Payments

If a third-party agency is covering a student’s university charges—such as tuition, fees, textbooks, or room and board—a written authorization (voucher) must be submitted before the payment due date each term. Third-party payments are considered financial assistance and will be included in the student’s overall financial aid package.

Send all third-party authorizations to:

Student Financial Services

Minnesota State University, Mankato

120 Wigley Administration Center
Mankato, MN 56001

Note: Minnesota State Mankato does not accept authorizations that specify that payment will be delayed until the final grades for the term are posted.

How it Works

  • Once the University receives the authorization, it is recorded on the student’s account.
  • The University will then invoice the third-party agency directly.
  • If the agency cancels the authorization, the student becomes responsible for the charges on their account.

Examples of Third-Party Agencies: Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS/DVR), Veterans Administration Rehabilitation, U.S. Army (National Guard, Army Reserve, ROTC), Private agencies (e.g., Mayo Clinic, Hull Foundation), Jobs & Training programs, International government sponsors, Minnesota State Mankato departments

Tuition Waivers

Students may be eligible for a tuition and/or fee waiver under specific circumstances.

Employee and Dependent Tuition Waiver

Collective bargaining agreements provide tuition waiver benefits to employees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Eligible employees must complete and submit an online application for tuition waiver to the Office of Human Resources within the required timelines in order to receive the waiver benefit.

More Details and Application

Please note that approved tuition waiver credits are assigned a dollar value to be waived, based on a calculation comparing actual enrolled credits to waived credits. With banded tuition rates for full-time undergraduates enrolled in 12-18 credits, the dollar amount waived on the student’s account for approved waiver credits may vary depending on the student’s actual registered credits for the semester. In order to maximize the overall value of the tuition waiver benefit, the employee is encouraged to evaluate the student’s academic plan for the year to determine the optimal number of waiver credits to request each semester.
