What is an Emergency Grant?


Sometimes, a small unexpected expense—like a car repair or medical bill—can put a student’s education at risk.

Emergency Grants at MSU provide quick, one-time financial support to students facing unforeseen hardships. These grants help cover essential expenses so students can stay enrolled and continue working toward their degree.

Who can Apply?

Undergraduate and Graduate Students

You may apply for an Emergency Grant if you:

• Are currently enrolled during the semester funds are awarded
• Meet with a Grant Advisor (listed below) to complete the Emergency Grant Application and provide documentation of the unexpected expense

Eligibility for 2024-2025 Emergency Grant

To qualify for an Emergency Grant, students must:

• Be enrolled at Minnesota State University, Mankato during the semester funds are awarded
• Be either:
  • An undergraduate student eligible for FAFSA or the MN Dream Act with a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $10,000 or less, or
  • A graduate student eligible for FAFSA or the MN Dream Act with a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $10,000 or less
• Meet with a Grant Advisor to complete the Emergency Grant Application and provide documentation of the expense
• Have not previously received an emergency grant while attending the university
