Patton is know as a five-time chart-topping Billboard recording artist, composer, producer and entrepreneur. His album Finally Living, made him the first independent gospel artist to have a number one album on the Billboard gospel charts.

As a teen, Patton was asking to revive a choir for a local high school, and that momentum led him to found Deliverance For Youth or DFY, the youth choir. Patton established a reputation of community service and the Minnesota Governor, Mark Dayton, declared July 31, 2016 Jovonta Patton Day.

Student Events Team, Concert Company Board Member William Keebler says, “Experiencing live gospel music is unique from other music styles. Bringing this experience to campus is a great way to offer a different live music experience then our typical music events”.

The Student Events Team is a student-led organization that produces fun, interactive, educational events where students make lifelong memories and celebrate their Maverick pride. African American Affairs develops events, programs, and direct services that promote identity development by encouraging students to explore the varying levels of their pan-African ethnic and cultural identities.
