Welcome… I’m your LCC Abby Skwira!

I am so excited to meet you this fall! I will be a resource for you as you navigate through your first year of college here at Minnesota State University, Mankato!  Being involved with the Transfer Learning Community will help you academically as well as socially, so utilize me and your peers as much as you can!

Major: Communication Sciences and Disorders

How/what made you decide this major? I started working as a paraprofessional at my elementary school during school breaks my freshman year. There, I had the opportunity to shadow my school SLP! I also took a chance and enrolled in an ASL class as an elective my first semester here! The two combined made me realize that a CSD profession was the right fit for me!

Year in School: Senior

Hometown: Pierz, MN

Favorite Food: Chicken quesadillas!

Advice for LC Students: Don’t be afraid to try new things and go to events (both Learning Community ones and others)! It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone by only being involved in things that you know well (such as a sport/club you did in high school). Those things are great, but exploring and trying new clubs and activities can open many doors and you might just find your new favorite thing!

Favorite thing about MSU: The perfect campus size! It’s small enough where you can walk around and know (and say hi!) to people, but big enough where there is always someone new to meet if you so choose! I also love the many different clubs and activities you have the opportunity to be a part of!

Campus/LC Involvement: Transfer LCC, Exercise is Medicine (Vice President), ASL Club (Secretary), Swing Dance Club (Social Media Chair), NSSLHA, Cru, Intramural Softball and Volleyball!

Favorite thing to do in Mankato: Grab a bagel and coffee at Tandem Bagels before going mural hunting and hiking!

Favorite things to do outside of school/coursework: Anything outside! Hiking, camping, hammocking, you name it! I also enjoy playing volleyball with my friends, making music, dancing, and going on fun spontaneous adventures!

Anything else we should know about you? I am so excited to meet you this fall! I am always here for you as a resource and friend, so reach out if you have any questions, want a buddy at a new event, or just need to chat!
