Once you’re admitted as a transfer student, you will need to go through orientation. After completing orientation, your intended major will be updated, and we will assign you to an academic advisor based on that major.
In order to have previous college credits evaluated at Minnesota State University, Mankato, you must first be accepted into the University. Once you’ve been accepted, our Registration and Academic Records Office will evaluate your completed coursework, and you will receive an official report (DARS Report) of how your credits will transfer in your e-Services account.
If you have questions about your DARS report, contact Registration and Academic Records at 507-389-6266.
If you’re not quite ready to apply yet, Transferology.com is a great resource to estimate how your credits will transfer.
Once you have either your DARS or at least a Transferology report, you are welcome to connect with the department of the major(s) you’re considering, and an advisor will help you see what your path to graduation might look like.
Once you’re admitted to Minnesota State University, Mankato, we’ll run your transfer credit evaluation automatically. Within about 10 business days of admission, you’ll see your DARS report in e-Services, which will show you exactly which credits count toward your degree.
Transfer students are students who have earned or attempted to earn college credits after graduating from high school. Students whose only completed credits were taken through PSEO, College in the Schools or similar programs while still in high school are not considered transfer students.
College transcripts: You will need to contact the institution(s) and request an official transcript. Many schools have an online request form on their website. We can access transcript(s) from any Minnesota State schools you may have attended, so you don’t need to send those.
High school transcripts: High school transcripts are only necessary if you have fewer than 24 college credits completed since high school graduation. Your high school transcript does not need to be official, but it does need to contain grades 9–12 and your graduation date. If you do not have a copy of your final high school transcript, you will need to contact your high school. If you graduated from high school more than 3 years prior to your application date, you can provide a diploma or other proof of high school graduation instead.
You can have transcripts sent electronically to admissions@mnsu.edu, or they can be mailed directly to the address below:

That depends on how many transferable credits you’ve already earned and which program you choose. Our designated Transfer Pathways have guaranteed two-year completion timelines.
If you have fewer than 60 credits, your timeline will vary. After you’re admitted, your DARS report will show exactly how many credits apply, and an advisor can help you estimate how long it will take you to earn the rest of the credits that are required to complete your program.
