Director, Gender & Sexuality Programs
E-mail: (out on FMLA currently)
Hi, I'm Jessica! I am the Director of Gender & Sexuality Programs at MSU, Mankato, which means I oversee the LGBT Center, Women's Center, and our Violence Awareness & Response Program (VARP). I was hired in October of 2004. I'm pretty sure I have the most awesome job in Mankato. My mom always told me to do what I love, so indeed, I work as a professional lesbian! I graduated with both a B.F.A and M.A from Minnesota State, Mankato, so I'm a long time Maverick! I'm dedicated to creating a safe and respectful climate for the LGBT folk on campus and in our community and fighting for justice and fairness for all marginalized people. If you are struggling with issues of sexual identity or you know someone who is, please don't hesitate to call or email. You are not alone! I'm here to help. In addition to striving to change the world, I love traveling and wait for it.......watching TV, (no, I am not ashamed.) I also love my cat and art (both making it and looking at it). You can find me in my office in the CSU (194). Check out our centers! I hope to see you around.
Acting Director, Gender & Sexuality Programs
Hi, everyone! My name is David and I am the Assistant Director of the LGBT Center! I am originally from Wisconsin, but moved to Minnesota in 2015. My passion for student affairs started when I was an LGBT Program Coordinator during graduate school. Since then, I've spent the past five years working with diverse groups of students advising on issues ranging from LGBT and social justice to student visas and immigration. I recognize how difficult it may be to talk about one's issues of sexuality or gender identity, but please know that if you ever need someone to talk with, I am happy to lend an ear and share some great resources. Stop by the LGBT Center and visit, or, send me an email and we'll chat! If you see me out amongst the community, please come and say hello! If you are interested in playing a larger role in LGBT* issues on campus, let me know!
Hello! My name is Jesse Valentin and I am the graduate assistant for the LGBT Center. I am thrilled to be along for this ride with all of you. I graduated with my B.S. in Psychology and am currently studying for my MSW in Social Work. As a Queer identified person, it is a real treat to be involved with my community in a professional context. It is super exciting to organize, teach, and learn with you. If you see me around campus and are interested in getting involved in any of our activities, or, just want to talk, feel free to say hello or give me a call! To contact me, please call the LGBT Center at (507) 389-5131.
