Online and Distance Financial Aid Checklist

Attending MSU online or remotely? These steps help ensure you receive the aid you qualify for.

  1. Submit or Renew FAFSA

    FAFSA applies to both on-campus and online students.

  2. Verify Eligibility

    Check that you meet the requirements for distance education aid.

  3. Review Aid Offer

    Check and confirm your financial aid award information in E-Services.

    • Select "Financial Aid"
    • Choose "View Your Award Notification" under Next Steps.
    • Review your award details and respond accordingly.
      • To accept a Federal Direct Student Loan, select "request loan." You will be taken to a separate page—follow the instructions there to complete the process.
    • Provide any additional information requested.
    • Submit your Award Response to finalize your selections.

  4. Complete Required Documents

    Make sure any additional loan or grant paperwork is finished. Check your email regularly for follow-up messages or requests for additional information.

  5. Stay Enrolled

    Aid is dependent on continued enrollment in online courses.

  6. Maintain Enrollment and Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

    To continue receiving financial aid, you must stay enrolled and continue to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

    If you withdraw from a course or leave school, your aid may be adjusted. Learn about Return to Title IV (R2T4) and how dropping classes can affect your financial aid. 

Reminder: Financial aid can only be awarded to students who have been admitted. Apply for admission to Minnesota State University, Mankato if you haven’t already.
