Direct Deposit Authorization for Students

Minnesota State University, Mankato provides payments to student financial aid recipients, student payroll employees, and students with refunds through direct deposits to their designated bank accounts.

To Sign Up or Review Your Current Authorization

  1. Log in to mnsu.edu/eservices
  2. Select either Student Employment or Financial Aid
  3. Click on Direct Deposit Setup
  4. Verify your bank account information

You will be asked to select a checking or savings account and provide the bank routing number and your full account number (not a credit or debit card number). 

To View Scheduled Direct Deposit Payments

Financial Aid Disbursement or Student Refund

An email notice is sent to notify you of a financial aid disbursement or student refund. To view the amount of the payment:

  1. Log in to mnsu.edu/eservices
  2. Select Bills and Payment from the menu
  3. Select Full Account Detail

Direct deposit payments are noted as “Payment to Student” on the detail screen. Note that the amount is typically scheduled for direct deposit two business days after the date of the “Payment to Student” transaction. It is important to always verify that funds are posted by your financial institution before entering into transactions that authorize the withdrawal of those funds.

Student Payroll

  1. Log in to mnsu.edu/eservices
  2. Select Student Employment
  3. Select Earnings

Net pay from employment earnings for each pay period are scheduled according to the University’s payday schedule. It is important to always verify that funds are posted by your financial institution before entering into transactions that authorize the withdrawal of those funds.

To Update your Direct Deposit

If you change banks or bank accounts, please remember to update your direct deposit authorization to prevent delays with future payments.

  1. Log in to mnsu.edu/eservices
  2. Select either Student Employment or Financial Aid
  3. Click on Direct Deposit Setup
  4. Follow instructions to view/update your bank account information

You will be asked to provide the bank routing number and your full account number (not a credit or debit card number) for the account you had set up as well as for the new account you wish to authorize, for fraud prevention purposes. If you are locked out of the process; contact the Campus Hub for further assistance.

Effective Dates

There are behind-the-scenes processes that generate payments to students, whether through Student Payroll, Financial Aid, or Student Refunds. Therefore, updates to your direct deposit authorization may not immediately affect payments already in progress. As a general guide to determine effective date, when you:

  • Add or Change a Direct Deposit Authorization
    • Student Payroll: it must be updated at least six business days prior to scheduled payday
    • Financial Aid Overages: it must be updated at least one business day prior to “Payment to Student” transaction date on e-services Full Account Detail page
    • Student Refunds: it must be updated at least one business day prior to “Payment to Student” transaction date on e-services Full Account Detail page
  • End Direct Deposit Account
    • Student Payroll: it must be updated at least five business days prior to scheduled payday
    • Financial Aid Overages: it must be updated at least one business day prior to “Payment to Student” transaction date on e-services Full Account Detail page
    • Student Refunds: it must be updated at least one business day prior to “Payment to Student” transaction date on e-services Full Account Detail page

Actual timing of the effect of add/change/end actions on future payments may vary slightly from the above general guidelines. Holidays may also affect timelines of effective dates.
