Black Intelligent Gentlemen (BIG)

We seek to improve the long-term trajectories of Black men in the college system. Historically people of color have been less likely to enter college and once they enter. They are half as likely to graduate. We believe that the best indicator of future success is the condition in which you start. The goal for BIG is to give our members the tools they need to not only survive college but to thrive in this institution of higher learning.

Black Legendary and Queer (BLAQ)

Dedicated to the theme of “Unity in Heritage,” and the principles of self-determination, self-awareness, and unity, Black Legendary and Queer will strive to unite and educate students of African descent about their cultural heritage. By promoting community service and stressing academic excellence, Black, legendary and Queer will cultivate students into active leaders in efforts to add to rich black history.

Black Motivated Women (BMW)

The purpose of Black Motivated Women (referenced here on out as BMW) is to provide a safe and welcoming space to unite women of the Minnesota State University, Mankato community. The group is, before all else, a sisterhood. Meetings involve the discussion of issues that are pertinent to Black Women. In addition to meetings, BMW plans social events throughout the year that work to strengthen the bonds within our sisterhood.

Black Student Union (BSU)

The purpose of the BSU is to promote and sustain an atmosphere that is conducive to the political, cultural, social, spiritual, economic, and educational growth of students of African descent and the University community at large. Such an atmosphere can be best achieved and sustained through the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge, cultural programming, pro-active leadership, and cooperation within the Black community.

Caribbean Students Association (CSA)

Membership is open to all students enrolled in the University who identify with the culture of the Caribbean, regardless of ethnic background, and are willing to further the aims of the Association. The organization is designed to give Caribbean students a sense of involvement and engagement.

Ethiopian Student Association (ESA)

The Ethiopian Student Association of Minnesota State University, Mankato aims to bring together individuals interested in Ethiopian culture as part of a community that organizes events, creates cultural awareness, and celebrates traditions together with the Minnesota State University, Mankato community. We endeavor to make a meaningful contribution by creating social and professional networks for Ethiopian in and around campus.

Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. (Kappas)

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated is a historically African-American collegiate Greek-letter fraternity that was founded on January 5, 1911 at Indiana University Bloomington. The objectives of the fraternity are: to unite college men of culture, patriotism and honor in a bond of fraternity; to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor; to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual and moral welfare of its members; to assists the aims and purposes of colleges and universities; and to inspire service in the public interest.

National Black Graduate Student Association (NBGSA)

NBGSA works to promote and sustain an atmosphere that is conducive to the political, cultural, social, spiritual, economic, and educational growth of Black graduate and aspiring graduate students and the University community at large.

National Association of Black Accountants (NABA)

Since 1969, the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. purpose has been the leader in addressing the issues and lack of diversity in the accounting, finance, and business world. Our objective is to expand a foundation of resources, programs, and opportunities for minority students to be successful in the accounting and finance field. NABA is dedicated to uniting accountants, financial and other business professionals, as well as students, who are committed to professional and academic excellence.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."

Somali Student Association (SSA)

The aim of the Somali Student Association is to endorse and encourage the culture, history and language of the Somali people. Above all, SSA intends to bring forth from ashes of ambiguity and misapprehension the fascinating lives of the Somali people. The Somali people are the third most populous immigrants in Minnesota, and this organization aims to become a bridge between the Somali community and the collegiate community.
