Transfer Student Admission Requirements

Transfer students have attempted or earned college credits after graduating from high school (this does not include courses taken through PSEO, College in the Schools, or similar programs). Students who have military experience are also considered transfer students.

Your completed application, including ALL required supporting documents, must be submitted at least five (5) working days prior to the start of classes. Under certain circumstances, the University may institute an earlier priority admission deadline. See the Transfer Admission Checklist for more information.

IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST 24 SEMESTER (36 QUARTER) CREDITS*

You must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended. Your application will not be reviewed until all transcripts have been received. Eligibility for admission will be based on the collegiate record, with automatic admission if you have (at a minimum):

  • 2.0 cumulative college grade point average AND
  • 67% completion rate

IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED FEWER THAN 24 SEMESTER (36 QUARTER) CREDITS*

You must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended and a final high school transcript showing grades 9-12 and the date of graduation. Your application will not be reviewed until all transcripts have been received. Eligibility for admission will be based on the high school and collegiate records, with automatic admission if you have (at a minimum):

  • 2.0 cumulative college grade point average AND
  • 67% completion rate AND
  • 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average or
    high school class rank of 50% or
    ACT Composite score of 21 with a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.7+

NOTE: MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS AND VETERANS APPLYING ARE WELCOME TO SEND THEIR MILITARY TRANSCRIPTS TO THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE FOR POTENTIAL CREDIT.

We may ask for additional information on a case-by-case basis. Once we have all your application materials, processing your file and making an admission decision will generally take 5-7 business days.

ADMISSION CHECKLIST

IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED AN ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE

You must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended. If the Associate’s Degree was conferred from a regionally accredited institution and there is a positive grade trend in your most recent coursework, you will be admitted.

CREDIT EVALUATIONS

After you’ve been admitted, our Registration and Academic Records Office will evaluate your completed coursework, and you will receive an official report (DARS Report) of how your credits will transfer. That report will be available in your e-Services account 7-10 days after you are admitted. After that, you will log in to e-Services using your Star ID and password.

RETURNING STUDENTS

If you were formerly enrolled at Minnesota State Mankato as a regular student (post-high school), you do not need to apply again, even if you have taken courses elsewhere. Instead, please refer to the Returning Students information and contact the Registration Help Desk at 507-389-2252.

International Transfer Students

*Must be transferable, college-level credits completed post-high school at an accredited college or university. Technical credits and credits completed in high school (PSEO) are excluded.
