Do I need to complete orientation before registering for classes?
Online Orientation consists of several modules that you need to complete before starting your semester as a Maverick. You do NOT need to have these all completed before you sign up for classes but, Modules A & B must be completed before your Synchronous Zoom session that you registered for.
What is the difference between an Admissions Open House and Orientation?
Admissions Open Houses are geared toward prospective students still making decisions about attending Minnesota State University, Mankato. Open houses are great to learn general information about the university to aid in your decision. Orientation is for students that have confirmed enrollment and are definitely attending Minnesota State University, Mankato. Orientation will give you everything you need to know before officially becoming a Maverick, including registration for courses.
I am taking courses at one of the Minnesota State Mankato partnership locations in Edina, Normandale, Mesabi Range, or am completing one of the Online Degree Completion programs. Am I required to complete orientation?
Yes. All University Extended Education and Online Degree Completion students must complete an online orientation. When you register for orientation, you will answer questions that direct you to the orientation program specifically designed for these programs.
Do non-traditional students have to complete orientation?
Yes. All incoming non-traditional students need to complete orientation. If you are a non-traditional, first-year student (not a transfer student), please contact the Office of New Student and Family Programs at 507-389-5498 and ask about orientation programs that may better meet your needs as a non-traditional student.
I am only taking a course or summer courses from Minnesota State University, Mankato, do I need to complete orientation?

Do I have to complete orientation before registering for classes?
Yes. You are not able to register for your classes until you have completed an orientation program and met with an advisor in your area of interest. Individual orientations are not available.
Can I register for classes before attending orientation?
You will register for classes after you attend your Synchronous Zoom session on the date you selected or during your on-campus Orientation. The Online Orientation Modules in D2L must be completed before you start your Fall 2023 semester.
If I was a PSEO student, do I need to complete New Student Orientation?
Yes. All PSEO students need to complete the New Student Orientation. PSEO students are not considered Transfer Students.
