Online Orientation Questions

Who qualifies as an online or extended learner?

If you are completing your degree entirely online or are completing a program at one of our partnership locations such as Edina, Normandale, Mesabi Range, etc., you would be an online or extended learner. For a list of online or extended learning programs visit the College of University Extended Education.

Can I complete an online/extended learner orientation even if I am taking courses primarily on the Mankato campus?

No. Online/Extended Learner Orientation is designed for the distance learner who doesn’t attend classes on the Mankato campus. The information for Online/Extended Learner is specifically geared towards distance education and services.

How do I register for extended/online learner orientation?

First, you must be admitted to the University. Once you receive an invitation by mail, you may register for Orientation. Follow the directions on the Register for Orientation page.  Students are registered after the $25 fee payment is processed.

I received an invitation for an orientation. Do I need to attend an on-campus orientation program?

You do not have to complete the on-campus orientation, however you do need to complete the online orientation program. Follow the directions for how to register for Orientation on that invitation.  If you are only seeing on-campus options for registration please contact the Office of New Student and Family Programs at 507-389-5498 for assistance.

Once I successfully complete online orientation, how long until I can register for my classes?

It takes 3-5 business days to process your online orientation results. After this time period, your orientation hold will be removed. You will be able to register as soon as your registration window opens and your hold is lifted.

How do I know my orientation hold has been lifted?

We do not notify you when your hold is lifted, however when you log in to E-Services, an orientation hold will no longer be visible on your dashboard. You will not be able to register until your hold is lifted and your registration window opens.

It has been longer than five (5) business days since I completed online orientation and I still have an orientation hold. What should I do?

How do I register for my classes once I have completed online orientation and my orientation hold is removed?

Second, check to see if your registration window has opened. If it has not opened, you will need to wait until that date to register. Any additional questions about the registration process, contact the Office of the Registrar at 507-389-2252.
