Graduation - Frequently Asked Questions

Preparing to graduate is an exciting but sometimes stressful process. Review these FAQs and contact our Graduation team with questions related to the completion of your degree or Commencement regarding the participation in participation of the commencement ceremony.

Graduation is the completion of all degree, diploma, or certificate requirements as recorded on an official transcript. Students must submit a Graduation Application to Registration and Academic Records in order to have their record reviewed for program completion. Students are encouraged to apply for graduation immediately upon registering for their final term.

Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates the completion of a degree.

Participation in the commencement ceremony does not imply that you have officially graduated.

You are not required to participate in a commencement ceremony in order to officially graduate.

Yes! The graduation application is used to determine which students are completing their degrees.

Your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address indicated on your graduation application. Check E-Services to confirm your diploma address is correct. This will ensure we mail your diploma to the correct address!

NOTE: If your diploma address is outside of the United States, you will need to place an order at https://study.eshipglobal.com/

As soon as your degree is posted, it's reflected on your unofficial transcript via E-Services. If you need verification of your graduation (for employment purposes, proof of graduation, verification of your degree, etc.), you may order an official copy of your transcript here: https://tsorder.studentclearinghouse.org/school/welcome.  

Minnesota State University, Mankato includes the following information on diplomas:

Name
Degree earned
The confer date
Honors earned (if applicable)

Your major or minor is NOT indicated on the diploma. These details are recorded on your official transcript. Order an official transcript here

 

Registration and Academic Records at Minnesota State University, Mankato can provide notarized copies of transcripts and/or diplomas. After document(s) are notarized, students who require an Apostille or Certification for a foreign country or institution should review the Minnesota Secretary of State website for instructions on obtaining an Apostille or Certification. Information can be found at the Minnesota Secretary of State website.

The Degree Audit is used to guide students through their degree requirements. After graduation, the Degree Audit is not available.

Your transcript will list all MSU, Mankato coursework and grades. Use your transcript as your official document indicating degree completion.
