International Maverick Scholarship

UPDATE: Starting in August 2023, the KIC will be counting hours instead of points for volunteer and other relevant university or community service to count towards the requirements of the International Maverick Scholarship (IMS).

To maintain the IMS, students must meet EACH of the following criteria:

  • Maintain valid F-1 or J-1 immigration status
  • Achieve a term GPA of 2.5 or a cumulative Minnesota State Mankato GPA of 3.0
  • Successfully earn/complete a minimum of 12 credits each semester (completed credits are grades A-D and P. F, W, I, IP and NC do not count)
  • Complete 30 hours of volunteer service each academic year

Pre-Approved Experiences/Activities

Waivers: Students on Medical Reduced Course Load; Students on Severe Economic Hardship or Special student relief.

Submitting Your Experiences

Students must submit their pre-approved experiences and/or volunteer hours by Friday, April 26th, 2024.

Students who do not meet the scholarship requirements at the end of the spring 2024 semester will lose their scholarship for summer 2024 and the 2024-2025 academic year.

The KIC will review activities and experiences at the end of each semester to add/remove as necessary.

Do you have an event or opportunity you think international students would enjoy helping with?

Request for your event's volunteering opportunity to be approved to count for the International Maverick Scholarship hours.

Please note: The Kearney International Center is not responsible for recruiting volunteers for your event. The center is happy to help promote the opportunities by posting them to our Social media pages and newsletters to students.
