Students may be eligible for a waiver of tuition and/or fees under certain circumstances.
Employee/Dependent Tuition Waiver Benefit
Collective bargaining agreements provide tuition waiver benefits to employees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Eligible employees must complete and submit an online Application for Tuition Waiver to the Office of Human Resources within the required timelines in order to receive the waiver benefit.
**Please note that approved tuition waiver credits are assigned a dollar value to be waived, based on a calculation comparing actual enrolled credits to waived credits. With banded tuition rates for full-time undergraduates enrolled in 12-18 credits, the dollar amount waived on the student’s account for approved waiver credits may vary depending on the student’s actual registered credits for the semester. In order to maximize the overall value of the tuition waiver benefit, the employee is encouraged to evaluate the student’s academic plan for the year to determine the optimal number of waiver credits to request each semester.
Requests for tuition waiver benefits for employees/dependents must also meet the earlier timelines if being used to prevent Registration Cancellation for Non Payment. Those who intend to file a tuition waiver request but are unable to do so within the timelines of the tuition payment policy may submit an online Intent to File to Student Financial Services. Please note that submitting the Intent to File does not replace the official tuition waiver request process, nor will it result in a tuition waiver transaction on a student’s record.
